2. Home is Where the Heart is.

The second project I would like to share with you is called ‘Home is where the Heart Is’ a short animated movie sound production. My role was as sound designer for a small production company to create the sound design for the short clip, responsible for Sound FX, ADR and Foley.

Again by identifying the Brief Requirements I quickly created a Plan, Gantt Chart and Equipment List which allowed me to begin organising what was needed to achieve the successful outcome on time.

One of the main keys to the success of this animated sound production was to use the timeline marker system in Pro-tools.

This produced an Asset Sheet which I was then able to refer to when recording and sourcing all the required audio.

During the mixing process in Pro-Tools 12 I created specific coloured named tracks for the audio elements which were linked by bus into specific coloured scene groups.

Within each groups acoustic scene environment I considered how the direct sound would behave and change travelling in each space IE; would the sound be absorbed by materials, what would happen when there are objects in the space (diffraction), how big is the space and if or how long it would take to reflect off surfaces etc. I manipulated and shaped the sounds using the software dynamic and time based effects to try and replicate the specific direct sound, early reflections and reverb tails as close as I could to match the acoustic anomalies (flutter echo, standing waves) as it would be in each typical space scenarios.

Uploading the completed finished sound design as specified to my WIX portfolio documenting all my key decisions in my Blog and through Self Evaluation was able to identify, record and reflect on potential benefits, risks and potential improvements.

With good practice and organised file management the regular meetings with the clients were quick, brief and successful which enhanced a mutual repertoire and confidence in demonstrating my abilities.
