Sound Sense
I made quick progress with the recordings and found it so much fun and interesting experimenting and bringing sounds together into a track which evolved from a shake and a tap. I think it reflects how I exist as a person in this world. I live in the moment and find life fascinating; transforming through experience. From tapping drumsticks together to playing with a ringing bowl, to finding how the flute sound changes in space. I hope that the listener can experience the same feeling I do during the creation process. To become aware of the senses: to become aware of life and remember that we are part of an amazing creation.
I wanted to bring a varied vocal element which reflected feeling and shape of sound with a few select words. I wanted to use it more for sound than story but giving enough words to help with the why. Using dynamic effects to enhance the movement of the track I spent a lot of time working with signal levels, reverbs, delays, panning, stereo flexing, volume control etc
I enjoyed editing and mixing the sounds with the use of Ableton Live 9 software. I especially put a lot of time into developing the dynamic movement as I hoped the outcome to feel completely immersive for the listener. Hopefully it will quieten busy minds and into a timeless zone in a meditational way. Almost like going on a journey without them even realising it.
I also enjoyed bringing together the visual element to the sound track by using a Cyber-link Power-Director 16 Software Programme which I hope will enhance the experience and make more sense to the listener. I imported the Audio File and brought together a collection of photographs that I have been taking over the past. The photographs also show my appreciation of the beauty of life which I do actually feel and believe in the power of divine love hence the vocal reflective element of the sound of ‘Aham Prema’ which is actually taken from the ancient Sanskrits.
The ‘Aham Prema’ mantra guides you to embody love in every action. Prema signifies „love”. The love includes human love, divine love, and universal love. Prema also means the cosmic force of consciousness that holds everything together. Aham signifies „I am”. This mantra is an affirmation that your higher self is pure love, and it puts your life energy in the same vibration with the love principle running through existence. A magnificent inner metamorphosis is invoked, creating one’s highest essence of love. This transmission enhances all situations, every day, creating a wonderful foundation for whatever one aspirations to manifest.
This chant is also a good healing mantra for those suffering from bouts of self-loathing or self-hatred. The „I” that tries to declare hates its „self” is instantaneously dispersed into a pure vibration of Divine Love. You’ll find this healing mantra grasping you just as a mother embraces a child.
Microphone type: Neumann TLM Condenser Microphone.
Placements: I monitored each recording sound to find the best placement of the microphone to accommodate each instrument by changing the height of stand and angle of microphone. I also took into consideration other sounds that might be picked up i.e.; traffic etc. and always recorded late evening/early morning when it was quieter. Paris Rose - Comptine d'un autre ete
Time to play on piano during the Easter Holidays. This is one of my favorite pieces. It was composed by Yann Tierson for the french movie ' Amelie'. The photographs are all taken in my home area during this long cold winter.
Paris Rose - The Earth Prelude
I know this may not be exactly as another one of my favorite pianist's 'Ludovico Einaudi' would play it but I am only a beginner and just like to have fun. The photo's have been taken around our home town park in Leslie, Fife, Scotland during these long winter months.
Paris Rose - I Giorni
Love playing with piano and with our camera and wanted to try and cheer us all up at the end of this prolonged winter and remind us that summer is not too far away. And I know it is not perfect but it is fun to try. I am a late self taught learner and tend to put my own interpretation on this. All the photo's were taken around my home area. It is so beautiful here in Leslie, Fife, Scotland.

Paris Rose - Om Namo Narayana Mantra
The repetition of this mantra brings about a manifestation of the divinity within the human soul. This mantra is also a mass of radiant energy. It accelerates and generates the creative force and can grant siddhis. Constant practice of this potent mantra confers infinite abundance, glory, love, power, prosperity, wisdom, and complete liberation. It is a mantra of peace, bringing balance to an off centered world.
In addition, reciting the mantra relaxes the entire nervous system and gets one in tune with the natural harmony.
Paris Rose - Mahamrityunjaya Mantra
Mahamrityunjaya Mantra is meant for healing rejuvenation and nurturance. The true meaning is as follows: Tryambakam: The three eyed lord (Shiva) who sees what we can see but who also sees what we can not see.
Paris Rose Creative Project Radio Programme - Remixing
In accordance with brief requirements I produced an informative radio programme which explains the art of remixing and copyright laws within remixing. The programme includes an interview with Remix Artist Neil Bethune and samples of his work and samples and information of a contrasting remix artist called Steven Wilson. Enjoy.
Paris Rose - Om Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah
This track evolved in a completely different direction as to which I had in mind but I realised that sometimes it's best to go with the direction it takes you. Special Thanks to 'Malcolm Brannigan' for his vocal contribution. I hope to work with him again in the future.
Paris Rose - Mangalum - More Mantra
I am really enjoying creating these tracks, however I am becoming more aware of the limitations of Ableton. It may be too early for me to make judgement but I feel a lack of emotional instrumentation. I need to encourage my friends in class to learn sitars instead of guitars or I need to bring in some Rock Mantra.

Paris Rose - Project 4 - Indian Influenced Mix
Please find yourself a really nice relaxing space to let yourself unwind with this mantra. Its was so nice to bring together and I hope you enjoy it. A beautiful mantra which I invited one of my lovely classmate's Malcolm Brannagan to sing along with me.
He has the most amazing vocals and I am sure he enjoyed the experience too. Thank you Malcolm. I really enjoyed creating this. I am also keen to show people how easy it can be to create sounds with everyday items.Using a Neumann Condenser Microphone at home in my studio I recorded different sounds i.e.; I used glass jars from the kitchen which had lentils, seeds and coconut inside them as shakers, a rain-maker, ringing bowl and Koshi wind chimes. I had recognised Malcolm had the perfect vocal tone that would be suitable for the effect I wanted to create. I also recorded my electric violin and drum-kit for music production. I used my keyboards along with an ableton synthesiser plug ins and midi samples and audio clips. I recorded, created and mixed the track in Ableton 9 Live Production Suite creating an instrument track with samples which were allocated to specific keys on the keyboard as per brief requirements and applied dynamic effects and processors where required to give me the desired effects.

Self Evaluation - I really enjoyed bringing together and creating audio elements ie; introduction, jingle, ringtones and weather report etc for this project. I did however feel a bit nervous about the personal live speaking part which in college recording sounded way too fast and nervous. To try and slow down my speech and make me sound more relaxed I decided to record it again in my familiar home environment which in hindsight did work to a certain extent, however because i did not have any access to an appropriate mic and because I had used too much reverb and delay to try and make it sound better, it is not really what I would have liked as a result. I really wanted to create a relaxing effect as it was aimed at Saturday morning students aged between 17 -23 and would like to try again with the appropriate microphone in the future. I have learnt however that some people are natural born DJ's which I am not.
NC Sound Production - Project 3 - Podcast
Peace with Paris Rose Podcast - Episode 1 - 4/12/2017 - An Introduction to Mantras
Self Evaluation
Inspiration – I was inspired to choose NAMET (New Age, Meditational, Ethic and Tribal Music) because I am interested in this specific type of music and am also fascinated by the analytics’ of my NAMET YouTube Channel which promotes this style. There is no common underlying structure as it is cultural rather than musical reflection. For example meditational music would have similarities to ethnic; ethnic would share some similarities with some tribal music. Yet meditational music which relies on harmony has very few musical similarities to tribal music which is more beat orientated. Consequently within NAMET I am chose to focus on one specific sub-genre i.e. Meditational Mantra’s hence the title – An Introduction to Mantra’s.
Production - Having identified the specific project requirements I quickly focused on creating a plan. This progressed to creating a Gantt chart which helped me to prepare my time to meet the project requirements within the given timescale.
Having experienced the positive effects of Mantras in my personal life I was very keen to introduce this to others, especially when I feel that so many people would benefit from this in their daily lives.
Keeping in mind the information I gathered previously when researching podcasts I set about to create a smooth running podcast which I hope will interest and reflect the calming presence of the Mantra’s to listeners.
Bearing in mind the project brief tasks I gathered ideas, information, audio and recorded dialogue and audio to create ‘An Introduction to Mantras’. By weaving the history and cultural movement of the Mantras I was hoping to give identification to the word Mantra and provide a clearer picture to the listener of the true values of the Ancient Sankrits which even through time still remain as valuable and effective to us.
Having carefully created a script I designed a podcast that first of all introduced the listener to a welcoming, identifiable and descriptive introduction to the ‘Peace with Paris Rose Podcast’ followed by carefully scripted bites sized pieces of information. By editing clips of Audio taken from my 21 days of Mantra by singers Deva Premal and Miten I managed to replicate an interview style dialogue using my own recorded dialogue. Editing carefully along with the clip of their dialogue using Chris Loyd Aige Vocal Effects I was able to make the recording and the clips sound like they were in the same room. I also used a Noise Reducer (NSI) set to 50 to eliminate the hissing sound that was coming across from the audio clips. Doing this I managed to create an interview style editing technique which backed with examples of different styles of Mantra audio hopefully bringing more meaningful depth to the picture I had in mind as an ‘Introduction to Mantras’. Finally showing appreciation to the listener and providing informative links to where they can access more information in relation to the Podcast leaving them with a taste of the beautiful sound of Deva Premal and Miten singing one of my own personal favourite Mantra’s mentioned previously in the programme, ‘The Gayatra Mantra’.
Using the Plan, Gantt chart and detailed daily log and I suppose a large element of being very passionate and focused I set to work on as much of the written work in Project 3 as soon as I could to allow time for the production of the podcast which I did actually bring together by the 4th Dec, well in advance of the deadline. So I feel happy with my project development, content and outcomes. Now I am looking forward to using the extra time to catch up on reading more of the relative reading recommendations given by the NC SP course i.e.; Recommended Books, Sound theory and any other informative links and information given on the I learn webpage whilst listening to all my favourite NAMET style music. Life is good.

‘The Kate Bush track ‘Lily’; 'originally released on her seventh album ‘The Red Shoes’. The song is devoted to ‘Lily Cornford’, a noted spiritual healer in London with whom Bush became close friends in the 1990s. “She was one of those very rare people who are intelligent, intuitive and kind,” Kate has said of Cornford, who believed in mental colour healing—a process whereby patients would be restored to health by seeing various hues. “I was really moved by Lily and impressed with her strength and knowledge, so it led to a song - which she thought was hilarious.” https://youtu.be/MWaqPOnR5wU

NC Sound Production - Project 2 - Soundscape
Two Worlds - Return of the Old Tribes by Paris Rose
See Blog page - Project brief, chosen image & Storyline
Self Evaluation - I chose the science fictional Image of two futuristic worlds as the main inspiration for my soundscape creation and simply used my own imagination to develop a story line with characters.
Sound Sources - Initially I created a couple of sound tracks in Pro-tools using the midi keyboard selecting soft ambient background sounds to flavour and set the scene for the listener reflecting the feelings of relief that the traveler was returning home to his loved one but also the tension of the unknown future

Bearing in mind the limited time factor (3 weeks) to complete this project I quickly created a visual plan along with a Gantt chart to identify tasks and project requirements, and time schedule. I was also aware of the few recording resources available and large number of students who may be requiring them, I quickly signed out the Tascam DR40, XLR cable, Sennheiser Shotgun Microphone with a Rode Blimp Shockmount &Wind-shield to take home and began recording sounds for my production. This quick start helped me to ensure equipment, order and time for any possible hiccups that may have occurred.

Sennheiser Shotgun Microphone XLR Cable
Rode Blimp 2 Rycote Shockmount TASCAM DR40 USB Cable

After writing a plan based on the project brief I wrote a script and began recording and collecting various sounds using the equipment over the first week while the equipment was available and to allow time to mix and edit. For example;

Using various other sound clips from my personal library and using time based processors, dynamic effects in Pro-tools 12 I aimed to take the listener on a journey with the characters. I wanted them to feel the emotions of the characters. I wanted them to feel the relief, love, desire, tension, excitement and fear. I also hope this helped to create a desire to find out what happens next and more.Bringing together all my chosen collections of sounds I began mixing and editing in Pro-tools using time based processors and dynamic effects where required to achieve the desired results and meeting all the project requirements by the deadline Friday 10th November.

Keeping to the schedule and keeping focused on the task I was able to manage my time and resources. This allowed me to update my blog on WIX and finish the project before the deadline. I also bounced and uploaded the soundscape to WIX page as requested, brought together notes for
presentation, self-evaluation, wiring diagram and the my personal choice of Film score composer 'Jamin Winan's' movie 'Ink' research which was also required as part of the brief.
