From a given selection of 12 images I chose this one……..

My interpretation for soundscape; An image of 'Two Worlds' linked by 'Two metropolis' cities.
Title for soundscape; 'The Return of the Old Tribes'

I had in mind a traveler (mineral prospector) returning from a long journey to his new home outside the metropolis; an advanced city built using off-world technology by a benevolent race. During his journeys he has frequently traded with the 'old ones'; tribes who have refused to adopt off-world technology (and culture) and are an embarrassment to the 'modernisers'; those controlling the city states who wish to mirror the off-worlders.
Leading a largely nomadic lifestyle himself, the prospector has a strong sympathy for those who follow the traditions, but knows those ways have a limited future given the harsh climatic conditions. His concerns are there is a minority within the city/state who want to move forward at a greater pace, and view the tribes not only as a cultural embarrassment, but as a hindrance to economic prosperity. He knows that the modernisers would very much welcome the eradication of the tribes (and all they stood for).
When he returns he is warmly welcomed by his partner who has missed him, eagerly awaiting his return and news; she too realises the precariousness of the tribes and the increasing tension and prospect of a civil war between the traditionalists and modernisers.
To begin the creation of the soundscape I am creating and layering up tracks, using keyboard input through pro-tools, an ambient background, which hopefully will portray the feeling of relief yet wih undercurrents of uncertainty.
Using a Sennheiser Shotgun Microphone and a TASCAM DR40 I have been recording sound effects that will help to set the scene for the listener. I have also written script and recorded voice dailogue. All these are being mixed and edited in Protools using time based processors and dynamic effects where required to achieve the desired results.
