In a group of 4 or 5 record a song – cover or original it’s up to you.

Completed mixed track to be uploaded to iLearn as a CD quality stereo audio file.

5 weeks

1) Initial Planning Stage

. Your Project Plan (your response to the brief)

. Gantt chart

. Studio Planning Document (to be completed before booking studio time)

2) Recording Stage

. Are you prepared for the session? (Documentation, Rehearsal, Pro Tools Session)

. Where are you going to place instruments in the studio? Why?

. What microphones do you require? Why? (consider transducer type and polar pattern)

. Do you require any DI Boxes?

. What cables do you require? How many do you require?

. What are the Health & Safety risks? (Electricity, Manual Handling, Noise)

. Where are you going to save your Pro Tools session? How many copies should you make?

3) Mixing Stage

. Balance volume levels

. Use appropriate panning

. Experiment with processing (equalisation, compression, time domain effects)

. Compare your finished mix to your reference track

. Bounce down your finished mix

. Archived Pro Tools Mixdown Session with all associated media files

. Interleaved stereo bounce of finished mix (WAV 16bit 44.1kHz)

. Completed mix uploaded iLearn

4) Presentation and Review

At the end of the project you will be required to present your finished track to a panel and talk about

the creative process you went through. During this presentation you will be asked to explain the

decisions you made during the course of the project.

You will also be asked to explain the following:

. What is the difference between the Creative Industries and any other industries

. Explain authorship, ownership, copyright, assignment and licensing with regard to your finished track.

. Name 3 roles the Creative Industry plays in society.
